The Guardia Civil has arrested five people who formed a criminal group dedicated to robbing homes in the province of Toledo and who stole jewellery and watches worth more than 150,000 euro. Of these five people, four of them carried out the assault on two banks in the Toledo town of Borox where they trashed the ATMs with an excavator to take the cash inside.
The first ATM robbery occurred at the end of May of this year, when four hooded men arrived with a stolen excavator and a car. One of them used heavy machinery to tear out the ATM, while others waited to recover the contents. Finally, after the Guardia Civil were alerted to the robbery, the perpetrators fled without stealing the money.
Just two weeks later and with the same modus operandi, the members of this gang tried again at another ATM in the same town. Here the perpetrators did manage to extract the safe from the bank, dragging it away with the excavator, but having to abandon it a few metres away. The Guardia Civil agents who arrived at the scene shortly after discovered it hidden but unopened, and the 4,000 euro it contained inside were recovered.
The investigation by the Organic Judicial Police Unit of the Guardia Civil in Toledo revealed that these four people were part of a criminal group, along with a fifth member, who had been dedicated to robbing homes since 2021.
On this occasion they made the leap to bank robbery, at which point the agents have managed to identify all the perpetrators and clarify at least 23 crimes, including robberies with force in banks, homes, vehicle thefts or drug trafficking, among others.
Of the home robberies, two stand out in which they managed to steal two shotguns from one and a pistol from another.
Once sufficient evidence was obtained and after weeks of investigation, the agents have arrested the five men who are members of the criminal group and brought them to justice. Four home searches have been carried out where 2,000 euro in cash have been recovered.
