Octogenarian on trial for killing his wife with a hammer

An 80-year-old man is facing 15 years in prison for killing his 81-year-old wife by repeatedly beating her with a hammer.

The Madrid Prosecutor’s Office requests fifteen years in prison for EGG, who at the time of the crime, the suffered from a persistent delusional disorder and killed his wife out of jealousy, according to the court documents.

The prosecutor, who charges him with the crime of homicide, maintains that the accused acted “with the intention of imposing his will” and as a manifestation of his power of control over his partner’s life, “by believing that she had an extramarital relationship.”

The accused, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, began arguing with his wife on the afternoon of June 15, 2021 when they were both in the kitchen of their home, during which the woman told him that “she did what she wanted.”

Thus, around 8 p.m. that day, the man decided to end CML’s life, so he took a shuttering hammer and in an “unforeseen” and sudden manner, hit her on the head.

The victim fled to the living room where EGG caught up with her and hit her again with the same hammer on “repeated” occasions while the woman screamed “leave me, you’re crazy, you’re going to kill me, help” until she fell to the ground, “where he continued to hit her on the head on more than 14 occasions, with extreme aggressiveness.

Shortly after, after being warned by the neighbours due to the cries for help that the victim uttered, the Police appeared at the home and, after opening the door, the defendant stated that he had killed his wife, who was 81 years old, “because she had f***** half the neighbourhood.”

Although she was transferred to the 12 de Octubre Hospital, she died at 2:30 a.m. on June 16, 2021 at the age of 81.

The accused, as reflected by the Prosecutor’s Office, suffered at the time of the events from delusional jealousy (persistent delusional disorder), in which the ability to know is preserved but the ability to process the information (think) collected through of knowledge is pathological.

Thus, any decision you make will be “severely influenced” by this pathological processing of information.

Therefore, he adds that “their ability to act will also be altered, which explains the fact that the delusional is aware of what they are doing, but their way of acting is pathological, since it is based on a serious alteration of the thought process.”
