In the midst of growing concern over the increase in domestic violence cases in Spain, the Castellón Provincial Court will begin to hear evidence from Thursday against a man accused of mistreating, injuring and retaining his partner, with whom he had moved to live in Spain from France in October 2022.
It is alleged that from December of 2022, just two months after the couple had settled in the town of Alcossebre, until February 2023, the defendant kept the victim at home and subjected her to total control, keeping all her keys, identification documents, credit cards and monitoring her calls.
The Prosecutor’s Office maintains that the defendant attacked the victim on several occasions since they settled in the province of Castellón.
On February 15, 2023, after an argument, the man punched her in the head, kicked her to the ground and, once she was on the ground, hit her. The victim suffered a head injury and broke her arm, among other injuries from which she took two months to heal.
The public prosecution requests a 14-year prison sentence for the defendant for the crimes of illegal detention, habitual abuse and injuries.
