The head of the Court of Instruction number 3 of Murcia has lifted the secrecy order protecting the proceedings that were initiated for the alleged commission of thirteen crimes of reckless homicide that occurred on the occasion of the fire that took place in the early hours of 1 October, in the Atalayas nightlife area in Murcia.
At the time, the resolution recalls, the secrecy of the proceedings was decreed so that the acting Judicial Police Unit “could carry out pertinent actions in order to investigate the cause of the fire in which thirteen people died, as well as the possible culprits.”
Although, at the beginning, the secrecy of the proceedings was agreed “to avoid hindering the investigation,” explains the judge, “given the complexity of the incident in which the aforementioned alleged crimes took place,” currently, “the need is not considered sufficiently justified” to extend the secrecy of the proceedings.” And this, as detailed in the order, “taking into account that the police have already collected objective data after inspecting the properties where the fire took place, have obtained information on the identity of the people responsible for the premises, have taken statements to various witnesses, and only various complementary proceedings of a legal nature are pending so that the acting Police Unit-Homicide Group can reach the conclusion of its investigations.”
