Sprinter to close year with 218 stores

The new owner of the Alicante sporting goods chain Sprinter, the British sports retailer JD Sports, following a takeover to become the sole owner, plans to open five more stores before the end of the year and will end in 2023 with almost 220 points of sale.

The first two openings of this group of five will occur in the coming days, in the Ballonti Shopping Centre, in Portugalete (Vizcaya), and in the Ronda Sur Shopping Centre in Granollers (Barcelona). Both stores, which will open their doors during the month of November, exceed 700 m2 of commercial surface and will employ almost 40 people.

The new Sprinter stores allow the fusion between physical and online purchases that materialise in a Click & Collect collection point, a free delivery service for online purchases, and the Marketplace Kiosk with 60,000 sporting goods just a click away for those who do not find what they are looking for in store and want to purchase the desired product online with the assistance and guarantee of the Sprinter team.

Sprinter’s Retail Director, César Cuadrillero, highlights that “the company continues with its ambitious expansion plan, meeting the opening figures that we set at the beginning of the year” and that have allowed the brand to advance (in sales positions) to Decathlon. Furthermore, as we approach 2024, we are already working on continuing this strategy to continue bringing our product offering services and experiences within Iberia closer to our customers.” In addition to Spain, where it is consolidated, Sprinter has also begun to open stores in the Netherlands, after purchasing the business of two secondary brands of the group in that market.

With these two openings in November, Sprinter will add 215 stores in Spain, but the payroll will be expanded before the end of the year with three new points of sale (in Estepona, Barcelona and Mahón) that will be inaugurated, if everything goes as planned, during the month of December. That is, the Sprinter brand will end the 2023 financial year with 218 operational stores. A little more than double those currently managed (in Spain) by JD Sports, with 106 labels.
