Seized assets provide 854,000 euro for drug addiction programs

The income from the Seized Assets Fund is allocated to prevention, assistance and social and labour insertion programs for drug addicts, as well as prevention, investigation, prosecution and repression of drug trafficking and money laundering crimes and international cooperation in the matter.

The Seized Assets Fund for illicit drug trafficking and other related crimes, managed by the Ministry of Health through the Government Delegation for the National Drug Plan (DGPNSD), will receive 854,481.13 euro after the auction of real estate that It was held this week in Madrid.

The total collected has exceeded the minimum award price by 47.36%. A total of 36 accreditations have been registered to participate in the auction.

12 lots of real estate have been auctioned, including homes, commercial premises, an industrial warehouse, land and farms and rural plots.

The auctioned lots correspond to properties located in the provinces of Pontevedra (5), A Coruña (1), Las Palmas (1), Málaga (1), Lugo (1), Tarragona (1), Palma de Mallorca (1) and Ávila (1).

The money collected by the Seized Assets Fund is intended to reverse the damage caused to society by drug addiction and drug trafficking. Thus, programs for the prevention of drug addiction, assistance for drug addicts, and social and labour insertion of these are financed.

Likewise, prevention, investigation, prosecution and repression of drug trafficking and money laundering crimes and international cooperation in the matter are carried out. In recent years, approximately 70% of this income has been dedicated to this type of demand reduction programs and 30% to supply reduction (crime prosecution and police and customs actions).

The management for the disposal of the properties, including the material holding of the auction, has been carried out, as on other occasions, by the State Commercial Property Management Company, MP, SA (SEGIPSA), dependent on the Ministry of Finance. The auction was held publicly at the headquarters of the National Mint and Stamp Factory – Casa de la Moneda.
