Starting on Wednesday in the Alicante Court, the trial will take place against a worker at the city’s Santa Bárbara Castle, accused of reselling the lift tickets that give access to the facilities and appropriating the 118.80 euro collected.
The events occurred in February and March 2020 in one of the most visited historical monuments in the Valencian Community. The members of the jury will have to determine whether the woman, when she was on duty at access control, did not tear or return the tickets – with a price of 2.70 euro – that the visitors gave her, to resell them by hand later when she was in control of the ticket machine.
The Prosecutor’s Office considers her the author of a crime of embezzlement of public funds and requests a sentence of 15 months in prison and two years of disqualification for the defendant, who maintains her innocence. The public accusation also adds a fine of six euro a day for six months and the reimbursement of the amount allegedly stolen from the Alicante City Council.
