Government proposes 4 percent minimum wage increase

The Ministry of Labour and Social Economy has proposed to unions and employers an increase in the interprofessional minimum wage (SMI) of 4%, which would place its amount in 2024 at 1,123.2 euro per month for fourteen payments, compared to the current 1,080 euro.

This has been reported by the union leaders in this negotiation, Fernando Luján (UGT) and Mari Cruz Vicente (CCOO), who consider that this approach is aligned with that of CEOE and Cepyme, which had proposed an increase of 3%, with the possibility of adding up to 1% in case of deviation from inflation.

Likewise, the Ministry has proposed a 20% bonus in Social Security contributions for the rural sector, as requested by the CEOE. The Ministry of Yolanda Díaz has also assumed the thesis of the employers’ association, with which CCOO and UGT agreed, of indexing the increase in the SMI to public contracts.

The union representatives, together with those of the business organisations, had been summoned this Monday by the Ministry of Labour to continue negotiating the increase in the SMI of 2024.
