Overcast sky and rain possible heading to New Year

Published

on

As of Wednesday evening, the Spanish state meteorological association, AEMET, indicates that it is likely that an Atlantic front will enter Galicia and cross the Peninsula from northwest to southeast during Thursday. “It will leave cloudy or overcast skies in its wake, with precipitation that will be more intense in the extreme northwest, while in the extreme southeast it will be unlikely,” they clarified.

During these days, temperatures will tend to rise, especially the minimum temperatures, with more local and less intense frosts and winds moving to the southwest, more intense in the northwest quadrant and eastern third.

From Friday until New Year’s Eve “there is a high degree of uncertainty, but the most likely scenario is that new Atlantic fronts, more active than the previous one, will travel across the Peninsula from northwest to southeast,” according to AEMET.

“Precipitation would be more intense in the northwest quadrant, reaching the southeast with less probability and intensity,” they added. Meanwhile, temperatures will decrease as well as the snow level, especially on Sunday, without ruling out that it may fall below 1000 m.
