During the meeting, in which the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, also participated, the CEO of the Irish airline detailed the company’s investment plan in Spain for 5 billion euro for the next seven years.

The President of the Government has highlighted the importance of the airline’s commitment to the country, a reflection of the stability and potential of the Spanish economy, as well as the confidence it generates in international markets and investors. In addition, it represents support for the strengthening of a key sector such as tourism, which at the end of 2023 was already pointing to record numbers.

The airline’s investment plan in Spain contemplates going from the current 55 million passengers to 77 million, increasing the number of routes from 730 to more than a thousand in 2030, basing 33 new aircraft – more sustainable by issuing a 20% less CO2– and open five new bases.

At the meeting, the President of the Government and the CEO of Ryanair agreed to work on strengthening regional airports. The promotion of this type of airports, with an increase in air traffic, will boost territorial development and economic activity in the area.

Ryanair has about 6,500 workers in Spain and is the leader in terms of number of passengers transported, in addition to operating more than 700 routes to 29 countries from our country. In the domestic market it has 82 routes.

Ryanair has also faced controversy for allegations of violating Spanish Labour Laws, and abusive practices of employment conditions, as well as facing court cases for infringing passenger rights and competition regulations, with various courts around the country taking action, but there was no evidence of either demand or commitment from either side to abide by those rulings.
