Two arrested in Seville for defrauding 18 olive farmers
The Guardia Civil, within the framework of operation Tahunat, arrested two people accused of the crime of defrauding 18 farmers who did not receive payment for the sale of the olive harvest in the Sevillian town of Carmona.
The agents moved to the oil mill where farmers deposited their harvest. Once there they saw how the facility was without any activity, finding hoppers and belts in the patio that contained olives in a clear process of decomposition.
After locating the mill manager, the agents inspected the facilities and located grinding machinery in unsanitary conditions with a large spill of oil on the ground. Likewise, they detected that the detainees were using labels from a brand that did not exist and on which the year 2022 was printed as the expiration date. In addition, they used another label that belonged to another company with alleged tax domicile in Granada to distribute or sell the bottled oil without any type of health registration or administrative permit.
In this regard, the researchers, with the support of agri-food quality technicians from Seville, verified that the owners did not have the necessary documentation to be able to operate as an oil mill or mill. They also did not have the General Health Registry of a food company or the Agri-Food Industry Registry.
As a result of the operation, 23 tons of oil that had already left the oil mill have been paralysed due to lacking the necessary administrative permits and traceability, as well as 25 tons of olives that were in a clear process of decomposition.
In addition to the crime of fraud, the two detainees are charged with an alleged crime of industrial property, document falsification, against the market and against consumers.
