The AnimaNaturalis group, who promote the welfare and wellbeing of animals, has responded to the news that for the first time, a ‘mascletà’ will be held in Madrid, which will promote the use of fireworks with noise, which they consider is “terrible that in the 21st century pyrotechnics continue to be promoted knowing that noise affects sensitive animals and people”.
As such, the group has organised a protest for Saturday 17 February, starting at noon, to ask that the mascletà be cancelled, since this represents a real ordeal for many animals.
The use of pyrotechnics can cause tachycardia, tremors, shortness of breath, nausea, light-headedness, loss of control, fear and even death. The time has come to raise awareness among the population and make changes to our archaic customs, they say.
For them we will hold a protest to raise awareness and ask for an end to the use of fireworks with noise. It will be a day to invite reflection.
In many areas around the globe, sky spectacles which were once the realm of pyrotechnics have been replaced by drone shows, which is both a less risky incarnation of the spectacle, but also considerably more respectful when it comes to the noise and fear generated by fireworks.
Respectful and noiseless fireworks are possible.
