The Fourth Section of the Provincial Court of Valencia has imposed a reviewable permanent prison sentence on the man who murdered his 11-year-old son in the town of Sueca on April 3, 2022, which he did to cause the “greatest pain of all imaginable” to his ex-wife, according to the sentence.
The resolution includes the guilty verdict issued by a jury and declared the accused the author of a crime of murder hyper aggravated by treachery and cruelty, with the concurrence of the aggravating circumstances of kinship and discrimination based on gender, in competition with a crime of mental injuries.
In addition, it imposes penalties totalling six years and twenty days in prison for the commission of crimes of habitual abuse, threats, mistreatment and breach of sentence in the area of gender violence.
The sentence, which can be appealed before the Civil and Criminal Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community, declares it proven that the man murdered his son on the child’s birthday after stabbing him 27 times in his home.
The man allowed the minor to call his mother while he stabbed him, because he intended to cause his ex-wife the greatest pain imaginable.
In fact – in accordance with the account of proven facts that appears in the resolution – he caused the minor’s mother, whom he had previously mistreated and threatened, “such intense pain that she has suffered from an adaptive grief disorder ever since.” He must compensate his ex-partner with 500,000 euro for moral damages.
The man had admitted the facts but then withdrew his admission when faced with the prison sentence now handed down following the trial which was further delayed due to Christmas so as not to impose further distress to those left to suffer the consequences of his actions.
