The staff, who according to the CCOO PV and UGT-PV unions have massively supported the concentration, have protested in front of the public sector and treasury of the Generalitat, in the Plaza Nápoles y Sicilia, the first of a series of mobilisations that will take place on February 13, 20 and 21 and a strike call.

The workers denounce the non-compliance with the salary equalisation agreement, signed on November 9, 2023 by the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Nuria Montes, president of the board of directors of Sitval, a public company of the technical inspection stations of vehicles.

“After months of waiting for the payment to be made effective, the workers have decided to start protests,” say the unions.

The salary equalisation agreement, which will affect those who earn the least, was signed in May by the previous Botànic government but it took months to obtain the necessary documentation to provide coverage and guarantee compliance with the pact, and it was finally formalised in November, with the PP government.

After 25 years in private hands, the management of this service reverted to the public system and the public company Sitval was created, with fixed and mobile stations in the Valencian Community and which has a thousand workers.

The unions recall that in the formalisation of the agreement on November 9, a promise was made to do everything possible to make the payment effective in January.

“The Sitval staff has shown a lot of patience, trying to maintain social peace for the sake of the service they provide and trusting in the words given, but the company states that there are obstacles from the budget and public sector departments in paying the agreed amounts, and now already owed,” as explained in a joint statement.

The failure to comply with this first agreement raises “serious doubts” about future negotiations to improve the working conditions of the Sitval workforce, although the union representation has continued negotiating the stock exchanges and other issues with the company, which will not be signed until the payment is made effective, they warn.

“Sitval staff are tired of waiting, they demand that the agreement be made effective and to be able to continue negotiating a single agreement that equalizes the conditions and remuneration of all people employed in the company, to guarantee a quality public service,” they conclude.
