Pedro Sánchez accompanied the King at GSMA Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2024

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, accompanied HM the King, Felipe VI, at the inauguration of the GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2024, the most relevant event in the world in terms of connectivity.

During the event, the Chief Executive was accompanied by the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, and the Minister for Digital Transformation and the Public Service, José Luis Escrivá.

After the inauguration, the President of the Government held several meetings with representatives of leading companies in the telecommunications and information society sector, with whom he highlighted Spain’s leadership position in digital transformation, as well as the Government’s commitment to the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence.

In his meeting with Meta’s director of operations, Javier Oliván, the chief executive valued the company’s commitment to turning Spain into a fundamental enclave for the development of the Metaverse at a global level. Likewise, Pedro Sánchez thanked Meta for its investment efforts in our country in terms of digital infrastructure, such as submarine cables or data centres.

The President of the Government has also analysed with the president and CEO of Ericsson, Börje Ekholm, his company’s involvement with innovation and research in Spain, with a firm commitment to the development of R&D. A clear example of this is the growth of its centre in Madrid, for which it will hire new researchers focused on the development of disruptive technologies associated with 5G.

In addition, the Chief Executive has shared with the CEO of Nokia, Pekka Lundmark, strategies to accelerate the deployment of 5G networks. At the same time, Pedro Sánchez has valued the company’s contributions to the public consultation on the National Cybersecurity Scheme.
