Police Continue Clampdown on Illegal Airport Taxis
The Road Crime Unit of Elche Local Police are continuing to monitor vehicles within the vicinity of Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, and in their most recent control detected numerous violations both in vehicles with a VTC licence and vehicles that do not have authorisation to pick up travellers at the terminal.
In this last control, the agents filed up to 9 sanctions, from complaints to a VTC for recruiting clients that entails a fine of 1,001 euro to a goods transport vehicle that was introduced into the public service area of the airport and that also lacked a transport card, with a complaint valued at 4,001 euro.
The objective of these police activities is to ensure legality in transportation and the safety of travellers, as if you do not use a correctly licenced vehicle such as a taxi, amongst a number of problems, you will not be insured for the journey.
Likewise, action was taken with a taxi from a nearby town that had lacked a licence since 2002 and had no possibility of rehabilitation. In addition, the Municipal Council and Transport were informed to revoke their licence and remove all taxi signs. The vehicle was impounded pending the payment of a fine of 4,001 euro. In addition, other vehicle drivers were reported for various violations in relation to the rules for carrying passengers in exchange for money.
Remember, you should only use legal taxis or VTC services as these vehicles and drivers are subject to stricter rules for passenger safety, and so-called “pirate taxis”, vehicles that carry passengers for money which are not correctly licenced, can be heavily fined and the passengers has no security or liability insurance.
