Alicante Airport Security Staff to Resume Strikes over Easter
After a period of industrial action last year at Alicante-Elche Airport when security staff went on partial strike, the industrial action is set to resume over Easter due to a breakdown in progress.
The Works Committee representing workers have issued a notice through their unions that, after the recent meeting with the Court of Arbitration, unfortunately they have not reached an agreement with the company.
The workers claim that the company refused to sit down to negotiate on March 21, conditioning any dialogue on the cancellation of the strikes planned for Easter, without offering guarantees of respecting the agreements previously subrogated with other companies.
Faced with this situation of imposition by the company, the Works Committee, acting as the unified voice of all workers, has decided to maintain the strike call, as “It is our duty and commitment to defend the rights and working conditions that we deserve. The strike is a legitimate and necessary tool to make our demands heard and ensure that we are heard”.
At their meeting on March 5, 2024, the members of the Works Committee unanimously agreed to call a strike, supported by the Union Sections of CCOO, USO and CSIF and ratified by the Workers’ Assembly on February 27, 2024.
Subsequently, they have established a strike calendar with partial strikes from March 28 to September 1, 2024. The strikes will be one hour in the morning (8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.) and one hour in the afternoon (6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.) on the specified dates.
Passengers are therefore urged to arrive at the airport in plenty of time to allow for subsequent delays passing through the security network.
