Stabbing suspect appears in court

A man accused of stabbing to death another 22-year-old man in Cercedilla, with whom he had an alleged hostile relationship, will appear in court today, as the Madrid Provincial Prosecutor’s Office requests eleven years in prison and charges him with the crime of homicide.

The event took place in November 2021, around 7:40 p.m., in the vicinity of a railway station, and in addition to prison the Public Ministry also demands compensation of 180,000 euro for the victim’s relatives.

According to the prosecutor in his indictment, at the alleged time, in Cercedilla, the accused observed the victim leaving a bar, accompanied by a third person. Then, he began to rebuke them and, when the two men approached him to find out what he wanted to say, the alleged murderer shouted at them a vague threat.

At that moment they tried to escape, but the accused followed them and reached the victim from behind, stabbing him first in the side and then in the chest, according to the Public Ministry, with the intention of ending his life. As a result, the victim suffered a “massive” cardiac haemorrhage that caused his death a few minutes later.

Currently, the accused is in provisional prison and has a diagnosis of “mild mental retardation” and “oppositional defiant disorder in childhood.” Likewise, due to cocaine use and cannabis dependence, he also has a depressive syndrome and possible clusterB dysfunctional personality traits in adulthood, which slightly decrease his volitional and intellective abilities.

It is for all of these reasons that the Prosecutor’s Office initially considers that he should be sentenced, although it points out that the mitigating circumstance of psychological alteration must be taken into account.
