A man has died following a police operation in Linares, Jaén, after opening fire at passers-by with a shotgun, injuring one individual.
The incident occurred at around 22:09 on Thursday when Linares municipal police received reports of a man firing indiscriminately in a vacant lot near the La Paz neighbourhood, away from the city centre. The weapon used was described as a long-barrel firearm.
One person sustained injuries and was rushed to the San Agustín Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Officers from both the local and national police forces responded promptly, triggering a high-risk incident protocol. They attempted to disarm and contain the suspect. During the operation, the individual was shot and left seriously wounded. Despite immediate medical intervention, he later succumbed to his injuries.
The National Police have now launched a full investigation to establish the precise sequence of events and the circumstances leading to the shooting.
