The clubs from the North Alicante region I understand wish to be considered as hosts for next years Championships, whilst I appreciate a lot of the thinking behind this request I wonder about the practicalities.
This years entries are of record proportions and if this continued next year or even came close to these levels where would the green space come from ?. At best you could only use the 4 greens, Javea, Benitachell, El Cid and Finca Guila, to come down as far as Bonalba would cause too many problems, travel, accommodation and scheduling.
This year we are having to use 6 greens, now I know that probably the same numbers would not be reached, but, suppose they are? What do we do?.
It may be that in the near future, if entries keep rising then the only way to host the Championships would be by regional qualification, Then the finals could be moved around, but in my opinion the South Alicante region has all the facilities to provide successful and profitable Championships.
Men’s Rinks ; Again last years winners have been split. Keith Jones, has 2 new players because of changing clubs, he has been drawn against the Dave Sewell rink. The best looking early game is probably Mick Johnston, Indalo, against Mike Detheridge, Costa Del Sol, I have a feeling that Costa Del Sol players could have a good Nationals this year.
The strong Quesada rink of Pete Bonsor, Bill Pain, Derek Toozer and Tom Hill will take some stopping and that task has been handed to Stuart Hamil’s, El Rancho’s rink, another interesting tie is Fred Roberts, Spanish Team Manager against one of this players Graham Cathcart, Tenerife.
Ladies Rinks : games 8 and 9 are two cracking ties with a strong Jan Dando rink playing an equally strong June Jones four, whilst, Lynn Greenland plays fellow
International Yvonne Bryden. Again the holders have split this year for various reasons. Another rink I like the look of is the Javea team of Gail Chick, Chris Evans, Lynne Eldon and Jan Brown have a feeling they could go far.
