50 extra seats were brought into La Zenia church on Sunday night to seat the capacity audience which attended the most excellent concert mounted by Nigel Hopkins and two of his choirs.

The concert, which raised 1,000€ for church funds, was performed by In Harmony, surely the finest quality choir on the Costa, and the incredible talent of Cantemos! Children’s Choir.

The magnificent children’s choir treated the audience to such delights as Streets of London, The Greatest Love of All, Skye Boat Song, Yesterday, Morning Has Broken, among several others. The soloists produced by the choir are among the finest on the Costa, and both Jessica Drewett and Holly Neeson sang exquisite lay.

A major feature of the children’s choir performance was the song, Can You Hear Me? in which the children not only sang the song depicting life as a deaf person, but also they used Deaf Sign Language for the words they were singing. Each child was in perfect synchronisation with the other, and the audience was both moved and thrilled by the performance.

The experienced singers of In Harmony excelled themselves singing many well-known favourites including Linden Lea, All in the April Evening, fabulous arrangements of both Caccini’s ‘Ave Maria’ and ‘The Water Is Wide’ in a well-balanced programme. Both choirs joined together in a finale of ‘Let There Be Peace On Earth’ which brought the entire audience to their feet in a rousing standing ovation.

Conductor Nigel Hopkins, who also brought the loudest applause of the night when he sang ‘I Believe’, reminded the audience that the children could be heard again next month on June 29th at the Orihuela Costa Resort in the concert, ‘Songs That Will Live Forever’.
