About 400 children have signed up to the school holiday programme which has been launched by Pilar’s department of Culture during the school summer holidays. The launch took place last week when the Department of Social Services presented the monitors and details of many of the activities at the town hall.
Parents were able to meet and talk to the monitors during the day. They explained how the children would be able to continue with their studies in a fun way during July and August while mum and dad could reconcile their work with family life.
A total of 26 monitors have been employed by the council with the activities taking place in the ‘Martin Artigot’ school. Each child will be charged just 50 euros per month, with discounts for families and children with disabilities, and they will remain at the centre from 9am to 2pm every weekday, Monday to Friday.
The Councillor for Social Services, Francisca Canovas, said that what the council has achieved is a great step forward. Activities will include sports and leisure and will also be focused on learning, in a fun and enjoyable way.
