The Orihuela Town Hall has referred the Post Office to a letter signed by the Acting Mayor, Antonio Zapata, which calls for a suspension to the removal of home delivery on the Orihuela Costa while the ongoing administrative appeal is resolved.
These legal actions were taken after the National Commission on Financial Markets and Competition (CNMC) published their decision to abolish the home delivery service of mail in La Regia, Campoamor, Cabo Roig, La Zenia, La Zenia II and surrounds, to those properties which do not use collective mailboxes.
The CNMC decision was adopted on the grounds that the population density was less than 25 inhabitants per hectare and the number of deliveries per household is less than five per week. However, the Orihuela Government reminded the Post Office last Monday that they have filed an administrative appeal on the grounds that Orihuela Costa is an established urban area, as is stated in the General Urban Plan, and the number of people living on the Orihuela Costa is much higher than the figures published by the state agency.
