CLARA CAMPOAMOR DEMONSTRATES AGAINST MALE VIOLENCE

The Ladies of the Association said that they would wear black armbands as a mark of respect to those who had suffered

La Asociación de Mujeres Clara Campoamor were out last weekend demonstrating against male violence.

After a number of female deaths at the hands of their male partners and husbands over the holiday weekend the group wanted to show their complete support to the authorities and to the families of the victims as they attempt to come to terms with the appalling brutality that has occurred in recent days.

They said that Easter should not be about mourning at the funerals of loved ones noting that at least six women had been abused, five of them killed, during the run up to the holiday weekend.

The Ladies of the Association said that they would wear black armbands as a mark of respect to those who had suffered directly and to their families.
A spokesperson for the group asked “where preventive measures and aid is coming from, because at the present time both seem to be absent.”

She bemoaned the fact that this “continues to pass before our eyes and those of society and the public authorities who, including many religious leaders, continue to look the other way.”

The Association demanded action “to stop this macho terrorism, and to make the eradication of violence a priority for all social, political, legal and economic groups.”
