Boat Fishing.
Me, Julie, hubby Keith and ‘Medway Chris’ had a morning out with ‘Orca Steve’ we trolled and caught a few tuna before settling for some bottom fishing between the river Abajo and the Repsol Garage.
We caught, mackerel, weavers, combers, pandoras and white bream, bogues and pickerels. Also a lizard fish and a sardine for me, two rather unusual fish to catch.
‘Computer Mark’ and ‘One at a time Richard’ joined me for another trip out with Steve and again we trolled but this time without any takes. Bottom fishing the usual marks boated, weavers, bogues, pickerels, red snappers, single banded, striped, pandora and couch bream.
My long time mates ‘Moody Git’ (Kev) and Richard plus Mike who is on holiday from the UK and staying in Arboleas went out with Steve (Again). We trolled for the first couple of hours and the last half hour and caught plenty of melva and bonito tuna and possible some baby yellow fins.
As juveniles many tuna species are almost impossible to tell apart without close inspection.
Bottom fishing various marks we caught, striped bream well over 1lb, weavers, a black bream (We haven’t seen many of those since the new marina was built and the area of sea in front of the harbour wall was decimated.
Pandoras, bogues, weavers, red snappers and couch bream made up the rest of the catch. I nearly had a big one when I hooked a 35 to 40lb sunfish on the surface but when he dived the hook pulled out even though my clutch was very light.

Shore Fishing.
‘London Bill’ caught small tuna and mackerel from Macenas Rocks, method was spinning small Mepps.
The Albox fishing club fished from the Indalo Hotel rocks one day from 11am until 4pm. A reasonable day was had, except for ‘Dennis the Menace’ who blanked.
‘Jaguar Jack’ caught 8 fish = 6 palometes, 2 weavers, receiving a sting from one.
‘Tony always Laughing’ had the best day with 10 fish = 4 good size palometes, 1 saddled bream, 1 weaver, 2 bogues and 2 small palometes.
‘Rock steady Eddie’ caught 8 fish? = all small.
‘Flash Gordon’ = 6 fish? = all small.
‘Squiddly Sid’ – 6 fish all palometes, three were a good size and big enough to take home.
Coarse Fishing.
‘Puentes Ray’ made a visit to Lake Puentes, it was a beautiful warm day with no wind. Puentes water levels are still rising and Ray was fishing about 3 feet further back than normal. As water levels were high he decided to try a new spot but not far from where he usually fishes.
He started on feeder with banoffee! flavoured fake maize and was into fish almost immediately and a better stamp than usual. The carp in Puentes are are definitely putting on weight now. He fished steadily until lunch time and then changed over to a stick float in about 10 feet of water using halibut pellets on a hair rigged bait band. It went absolutely crazy, screaming reels one after another. Ray took eight barbel in about 30 minutes, the biggest being just under 4lb before it dropped off a bit and he went back to catching carp all around 2-3lb
Ray left at 5pm having had a really enjoyable day, he will definitely persevere with the pellets in future.

The Rods and reels club competition this week was held on the Eden Canal stretch of the River Segura. The river had some pace but it was the colour that was most off putting, the river was carrying a lot of silt. In saying that there were some good weights, you never can tel.
Nature is still trying to claim back all the ground and it is a constant battle to keep pace with the growth. The club will at the next match at Eden have another work party for half an hour to help stem the growth. Terrapins also seem to be in abundance at present, with most anglers complaining of catching them throughout the match.
Top rods on the day
1st Stan ( The Man ) Roberts fishing the pole using pellet and paste with 30.2/3lbs.
2nd Dave ( The Sweetie Man ) Hutchinson fishing the pole using pellet with 21lbs.
3rd Lenny ( Ex Cutural Attache) Bolton fishing the pole using pellet with 20lbs.
Abbey Angling club fished at Nancy’s this week.
The mornings are now closing in rapidly and it is not getting light until 7.15am making it difficult to see to peg the water and check the pegs are safe and fishable.
There was a good turn out with only two dry nets, but work parties are desperately needed to create some more pegs to enable them to accommodate all the anglers. The Medio Ambiente have done no clearing of the banks so far this year and the allocated money has apparently been used elsewhere.
The pegs below the boom are still the pegs to draw as once again they produced the winning weight.
1st Ian (The Wizard) Dalzell with 41lbs fishing the feeder using maggot.
2nd Stan (The Man) Roberts with 39lbs fishing the pole using bread and maggot.
3rd Bill (The Master) Reade with 32.1/2lbs fishing the feeder using Maggot.

Any one going to fish on Murcia town water, at present the water is the colour of chocolate and about to overflow onto the tow path and the bridge is impassable.

Latest license information.
There is a new loophole for those without a nie number who want an Andalucian beach and/or boat fishing license. It will mean a trip in person to Almeria with a friend who has a nie number and it has a 50/50 chance of working!
The other loophole for fishing the beaches and boats in Andalucia without an NIE document is to make a trip to Murcia. Or the new UK sea fishing license should suffice BUT although we have been told this can be used here I have not seen a copy of this rule on paper and so it could be a problem if pulled up by the police who probably don’t know about the rule.
There is now a loophole for those wanting coarse fishing licenses for Andalucia who don’t have NIE documents or/and don’t want to do the 24 hour course in Spanish, see me for more details. There is talk of an agreement between all regions for any license to be used elsewhere, watch this space.
I have now been informed this method isn’t working and the authorities now suggest going through a solicitor, god forbid there are some stupid people in this world!
