Applications have now been submitted to the Planning Authorities to build two 3 or 4 star hotels in Torrevieja, according to the mayor, Eduardo Dolon, and the head of the Municipal Department of Planning, Francisco Moreno.

The first of these projects is the one that would rise above the old resort Los Europeos in La Mata , on the avenue of the same name. The mayor said that the developers have already qualified for the 50% Building and Construction tax and that the next step will be the presentation of the construction project by the owner, a foreign investor.

The other hotel will be constructed in Torrevieja itself on one of the few open spaces on the coastline, at Campico San Mamés along the Avenida de Gregorio Marañón.

The General Urban Plan shows the construction of several tower blocks of over twenty stories and the two council officials state that one of these could become a hotel which, like La Mata, will have breathtaking views and be situated in an unbeatable location.

The Planning Councillor said that over the years there have been many intended projects in the area but none have come to fruition with each in turn being delayed or cancelled but now “there is great interest on the part of developers’ of this second hotel and right nowin the urban departmentwe are evaluating the preliminary reports to ensure that all municipal ordinances are met.
