A fire raged for three hours last Friday afternoon in Fuente Don Juan in the Torremendo area, hitting around 10,000 square metres of hillside.
Orihuela local police officers and Valencia forestry brigades joined forces with firefighters to extinguish the blaze, which started in a property, and spread quickly. Nobody was injured in the incident.
The weekend brought a number of scrubland fires including one in the Hondon area, and a small fire at La Mata Natural Park affecting some 1,500 square metres, which was reported to authorities by residents in Torrevieja’s La Siesta and El Limonar urbanisations.
