A 29-year-old Belgian man has been arrested in Daya Nueva and accused of smuggling and public health offences, after a stash of unlicensed medicines was intercepted over a period of time at Alicante-Elche airport.
Twenty-one thousand pills, said to be worth 210,000 euro, had been seized during the Guardia Civil operations, with two men in San Vicente del Raspeig and Alicante City also being arrested.
Most of the drugs, many of which were for erectile dysfunction, were being shipped in from India with serious doubts about the quality of the pills which were set to be sold cheaply across Alicante Province. None of the tablets were European Union approved.
The Guardia rumbled that something was going on towards the end of last year with regular parcels coming in from India addressed to locations in Los Montesinos and Daya Nueva, as well as San Vicente and Alicante.
