Spain has carried out more than 39.5 million diagnostic tests since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Specifically, the autonomous communities have notified the Ministry of Health that, until April 22, they have carried out a total of 39,533,769 diagnostic tests. Of these, 29,675,676 are PCR and 9,858,093 are antigen tests.
In the last week, from April 16 to 22, the autonomous communities have carried out a total of 554,410 PCR, an average of 79,201 PCR per day.
In addition, from April 16 to 22, the autonomous communities have carried out a total of 287,452 antigen tests (41,064 on average per day). Added to the PCR performed, they represent a total of 841,862 diagnostic tests performed in this period, 120,266 per day. Thus, the number of diagnostic tests performed increased by 2%, with a rate of 839.35 per 1,000 inhabitants.
Progressively, new techniques are being developed for the diagnosis of SARS-Cov2 infection, such as the rapid antigen tests that the Health Departments are beginning to introduce in the management of the pandemic.
