The Ministry of Health and the autonomous communities will meet this Friday, October 7, in person in Galicia within the framework of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (CISNS).
The CISNS Plenary is held in the midst of the debate on the possible withdrawal of the mandatory use of masks in public transport, which has already been supported by several autonomous communities.
However, the Public Health technicians meeting this Monday in the framework of the Conference on Alerts and Preparedness and Response Plans were mostly in favour of preventively keeping the mask on public transport.
In this conclave, only the experts from Murcia and Madrid, both autonomous communities led by the PP, defended the withdrawal of this protection measure due to the good evolution of the pandemic, with a seventh wave in which more cases are registered but they develop a milder clinical picture, they say, despite infections, hospitalisations and ICU admission not showing positive results in the latest reports.
The Public Health technicians from the rest of the Autonomous Communities present at the meeting advocated maintaining the use of the mask and, in this sense, alluded to prevention against the circulation of viruses that can lead to respiratory infections, including COVID-19, as well as the flu.
In any case, the meeting of experts of the Warning Report was closed without any position being set in a technical document to support or decline this decision.
At the meeting of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (CISNS) that took place on the 21st, several regional governments demanded the review of the mandatory use of the mask in public transport, a petition which the department led by Carolina Darias promised to take up with the health experts.
The Community of Madrid has repeatedly demanded that a technical review be carried out “as soon as possible” on the use of masks, “especially in public transport”, to approve their withdrawal. The Minister of Health, for her part, has defended the need to adopt a decision on the subject based on what the experts say.
