Renfe users can now obtain free passes for Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distancia services for the next validity period, for travel between May 1 and August 31, 2023.
After the Government approved last December the free subscriptions for 2023 for recurring travellers, Renfe makes specific multi-trip tickets available to users that are valid for each calendar four-month period of the year, the latest now being released.
The quickest way to purchase the passes is possible through the Cercanías Renfe app, and in the case of Media Distancia passes through the website www.renfe.com, although you must register.
For Avant rail services, the 50% discount on season tickets is maintained. This same discount is applied to other high-speed routes that have been declared a Public Service Obligation (OSP), which operate under the same conditions as an Avant Pass.
To purchase the subscription, although it is free, it is necessary to deposit 10 euro in the case of Cercanías and Rodalies, and 20 euro for each conventional Media Distancia service. Payment by card will allow the automatic return of the deposit, once it is verified that the condition of having made 16 trips during these four months has been met.
Travelers who have used the free commuter pass for Cercanías, Rodalies or Media Distancia in the first four-month period of 2023 will have their deposit returned, provided they have met the conditions thereof. Those who pay the deposit with a card will be automatically refunded.
