On Tuesday, the Courts in Valencia will try a woman accused of improperly collecting 174,000 euro of her brother´s pension, despite the fact he had died in 1996.
The Valencia Prosecutor ‘s Office provisionally requests a four-year prison sentence for a continued crime of fraud for the defendant, whom it accuses of collecting her deceased brother’s pension for 24 years. Prior to 1996, the woman assumed custody of her relative, who received a monthly orphan’s pension.
According to the information on this case released by the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community, the man died on May 1, 1996.
According to the public accusation, from that date “the defendant hid the death from Social Security and the bank and continued to collect the pension until March 2020.” In total, according to the brief describing the facts, “the woman improperly obtained more than 174,000 euro.”
