According to the state meteorological centre, AEMET, after the respite of storms in some parts of the country at the weekend that Monday brought, bringing a more stable situation, with sunny skies and an “almost general” rise in temperatures, cloudiness will increase on Tuesday and Wednesday with probable rainfall in the extreme north, which may be more intense around the Cantabrian mountain range and the Pyrenees on Tuesday, and in the form of showers and storms in the northeast of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands on Wednesday. Also, the thermometers will drop slightly.
Thursday sees it likely that the rainfall will affect the eastern Cantabrian Sea, the Pyrenees, the northeast of Catalonia and other areas of the eastern Mediterranean area.
As of Friday, stability will be recovered, although the AEMET does not rule out some scattered precipitation in the eastern Cantabrian area, the Pyrenees and the northeast of the Balearic Islands.
The national average value of accumulated rainfall from the beginning of the hydrological year (October 1, 2022) until May 2, 2023 is estimated at 346 l/m 2, which represents around 26% less than the corresponding average for the period (469 l/m 2 ).
The accumulated amounts are below their normal values in most of the Peninsula and archipelagos, especially in the eastern and southern half. In many areas it does not reach 75% of its normal value or 50%, in part of eastern Catalonia, the interior of the Valencian Community and Malaga.
On the other hand, rainfall exceeds its average values in areas of the interior and western third of the Peninsula and part of the islands of Mallorca, Menorca and Tenerife.
