Former US Secretary of State and Presidential hopeful, Hillary Clinton, will accompany the US Ambassador to Spain, Julissa Reynoso, in Barcelona in the central event of the 50th anniversary of the think tank Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB) on Friday.
Clinton, Secretary of State between 2009-2013 and the first woman to be a candidate for the presidency of the United States, will participate -on her first trip to Barcelona- in the dialogue A life in global politics together with the director of CIDOB, Pol Morels. The event will be held on Friday, June 2 at 5:30 p.m., and will feature institutional interventions by Antoni Segura, President of CIDOB, and Ambassador Julissa Reynoso. Clinton also met with the King in an audience on Wednesday, at the Palacio de la Zarzuela.
CIDOB was founded in 1973 by a group of citizens recently returned from Chile –among them the founder of the think tank, Josep Ribera– with the aim of creating an observatory of international events, and particularly in Latin America. As an initiative born of civil society, and with the advent of democracy, in 1979 CIDOB was established as a private foundation under the name Center d’Informació i Documentació Internacionals a Barcelona, and currently as Barcelona Centre for International Affairs.
“In its 50-year history, CIDOB has witnessed the main events that have shaken Europe and the world, always with the desire to explain global politics and its impact on public and private institutions and on civil society, transcending the classic structures of international relations and making values, analysis, research and dissemination compatible”, highlighted the organisation in a press release.
“A pioneer in international relations studies and in the production of knowledge in this area through its lines of publications, CIDOB celebrates its 50th anniversary in a world marked by the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the post-pandemic, the global confrontation between great powers, the decline of democracies and the climate crisis, among others, claiming its role as an independent think tank, of prestige and reference in international issues, and with the will to continue explaining and offering plural visions of an international system in transformation”, they concluded.
