Detaining rape suspect in court

on

The Second Section of the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands will hear evidence from today, Friday, against a man accused of retaining a woman in his home for a week, whom he threatened and raped continuously. The public prosecution asks for a total of 18 years in prison for the man.

According to the prosecutor, on December 1, 2021, in Palma, the defendant took the victim to his home located in a shanty town and, once there, locked the door.

Given the girl’s refusal to have sex, he slapped her across the face, grabbed her arms tightly and forced her to perform a sex act.

He did not allow the victim to leave his house until December 7, leaving her inside the house, which he locked every time he left, preventing the woman from leaving. In addition, the prosecutor maintains that the man threatened her with expressions such as “If you leave, it will be the last thing you do.”

The Public Prosecutor’s Office also reports that, during the time he kept her locked up, the man forced the injured woman to perform sex acts on multiple occasions, overcoming her resistance by pushing against the bed, shaking her vigorously and grabbing her by the arms.

As a consequence of these events, the woman has experienced psychological reactions of anxiety and fear that it could happen again, adds the Prosecutor’s Office.

On December 8, 2021, an order was issued under which the individual was prohibited from coming within 500 metres of the victim or from communicating with her by any means.

The prosecutor considers the facts constituting a crime of illegal detention, crime of threats and continued crime of rape, and asks for sentences that add up to 18 years in prison.

Likewise, he is interested in imposing on the defendant the prohibition to approach or communicate with the victim for a period of 23 years, higher than the prison sentence that, if applicable, is decreed, as well as the probation measure for ten years.
