The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) has ordered the withdrawal of various cosmetic products intended for children. If you have any of the products listed at home, don’t use them.
The cosmetic products are intended for use by children and are sold under the MARKWINS BEAUTY brand, according to an alert published by the Catalan Generalitat and collected by RAPEX, the alert system for dangerous non-food products of the European Union.
Specifically, the withdrawal of the following products from the POP GIRL range (all lots) has been ordered. These are makeup sets or briefcases, sold mainly online, on the Amazon platform.
POP GIRL Colour Tint.
POP GIRL Beauty On-the-Go- Neon Pink.
POP GIRL Nail Blockbuster.
POP GIRL Beauty Case.
POP GIRL Colour Train Case.
POP GIRL Beauty Vanity Case.
POP GIRL Mini Beauty Case Set.
The withdrawal is due to the fact that several risks have been detected in these products related to the following preservatives, which contravene the European Cosmetic Regulation:
Presence of bronopol (2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol), an ingredient that does not appear on the label.
A lower than expected phenoxyethanol concentration.
Mixture of preservatives methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) and methylisothiazolinone (MI), prohibited in cosmetic products that do not rinse. Prolonged contact with these ingredients could cause allergic skin reactions in sensitised people.
The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products has ordered, as a precautionary measure, the cessation of the marketing of all products and the withdrawal from the market of all distributed units.
Recommendations to consumers
Consumers are advised not to purchase any unit of these products, if they are still for sale. If you have any units of these products, stop using them immediately.
Distributors and sales establishments must immediately cease their sale.
How to notify an unwanted effect of a cosmetic
If you have experienced or are aware that someone has suffered an unwanted effect attributable to the use of a cosmetic product, you must notify the Spanish Cosmetovigilance System using NotificaCS.
