The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will visit Tenerife on Monday to witness the area affected by the devastating fire declared last week.
The fire started to ease at the weekend by normalising its progress after a few days of unusual behaviour, although it was still declared as “uncontrolled” and affects nine municipalities. The normalisation allowed the firefighting teams to contain the head of the fire in La Esperanza and lift the confinement of 3,820 people, although it remains for 1,671.
Until the next evaluation of the situation, the fire has consumed an area of more than 3,700 hectares and a perimeter of 41.9 kilometres and covers the municipalities of Arafo, Candelaria, El Rosario, La Victoria, La Matanza, Tacoronte, Santa Úrsula, El Sauzal and La Orotava.
