Guardia Civil arrest Mallorca burglary gang

The Guardia Civil arrested five people belonging to a gang specialised in committing burglaries in inhabited houses on the island of Mallorca.

After analysing several complaints about robberies in homes committed in the towns of Bendinat, Costa den Blanes, Santa Ponça and Marratxí, the officers of the Heritage Group of the Judicial Police of the Balearic Islands and the Pont d’Inca investigation area, began the investigations to identify the members of at least 20 robberies with force.

The agents detected that last week, one of the suspects intended to leave the island, so an operation was organised at Palma airport to arrest him. Among his belongings they found several high-end watches, jewellery and 8,000 euro in cash.

The arrest at the airport caused the operation to be rushed due to the possible escape of the rest of the gang. Other officers carried out a search of a home in the Santa Catalina neighbourhood of Palma, where the other four members of this group were detained by agents from the Citizen Security Unit of the Guardia Civil in the Balearic Islands.

During the search, numerous luxury bags, high-end watches valued between 8,000 and 30,000 euro, jewellery and methamphetamine, as well as 7,000 euro more in cash were seized.

The operation ended with five people arrested and the seizure of effects and money worth more than 200,000 euro, which are being analysed to identify all those possibly harmed in the robberies and deliver their legitimate belongings.

Presented at the investigative court number 6 in Palma, four of the detainees were remanded in custody.
