2,356 people killed trying to reach refuge
According to the latest data from the International Agency for Migration (IOM), the number of people who have died or disappeared in the Mediterranean Sea since the beginning of 2023 currently reaches 2,356 (compared to more than 2,400 registered throughout 2022).
For its part, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has indicated that the conflict in Sudan has caused a notable increase in the arrival of its nationals to Tunisia, one of the main bridges from Africa to Europe, which has also experienced a significant increase in migrant departures during this year, compared to 2022.
