E-scooters banned on public transport in Madrid
Starting this weekend, Madrid will ban access of users with electric scooters on the region’s public transport network to guarantee the safety of passengers.
The decision was adopted by the Board of Directors of the Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM), after an incident on October 17 when the battery of one of these devices exploded inside a train that was in the La Elipa station, on Metro Line 2. Although the explosion caused material damage, there were luckily no personal injuries.
The restrictive measure will come into force on November 4 and will prevent access with electric scooters to the buses of the Municipal Transport Company of Madrid (EMT) and interurban and urban buses in other municipalities, as well as in the facilities and vehicles of Metro de Madrid. and the five interchanges of Plaza de Castilla, Moncloa, Príncipe Pío, Plaza Elíptica and Avenida de América.
Passengers who do not comply with the measure will be expelled. The limitation will last until the safety conditions of this type of elements in public transport are “completely verified,” as reported by the regional government.
