The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the leader of the PP, who was defeated in his bid to become President, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, will face each other in the Plenary of Congress today, their first face to face since the investiture in a climate of maximum tension due to issues such as the processing of the amnesty law and the “handover” from the Mayor’s Office of Pamplona to Bildu.
This parliamentary duel – which will first include a debate on the current Spanish Presidency of the EU and then the Government control session – will take place at a time when the meeting between Sánchez and Feijóo is in the air.
Almost two weeks ago, the President of the Government announced that he would arrange a meeting with the leader of the PP to talk about the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), regional financing and the reform of article 49 of the Constitution to eliminate the diminished term.
Days later there was a first contact between cabinets. Moncloa offered several dates but the PP demanded a written order of the meeting, with the intention of incorporating several topics into it. According to the PP, the head of the Executive is using that meeting with the head of the opposition as a “smokescreen” to “deflect” attention to “fires” like amnesty.
