The PSPV-PSOE socialist group will hold the executive in which the machinery will be launched to hold the Extraordinary Congress that will elect Ximo Puig’s successor as the head of the regional body today.
The general secretary himself, who has refused to comment on the possible candidacies, has indicated that the idea “is still” to hold the conclave at the end of February or beginning of March and that they would like to hold it in Castellón for a “historical tour”, although this is subject to logistics.
This was indicated by Puig in a media address after participating in a meeting of the socialist group in Les Corts. The former president has indicated that there are “many logistical circumstances” that are making it difficult to convene this extraordinary Congress.
In fact, the National Executive Commission, which is the body that launches the process, has already had to be delayed for a week. Once assembled, it will convene the highest body between congresses, which is the National Committee, and the Congress will be definitively established there.
Regarding its date and place: “It will basically depend on a logistical issue and the festivities that are celebrated in the month of March in the Valencian Community, in Castellón and in Valencia specifically. And in that sense, there is also the logistics of the place itself. and the appropriate space. It is a space that must be able to accommodate a thousand people, which with so much speed and with the activity that exists in the Valencian Community, is not easy.”
On the other hand, Puig has refused to comment on the person who will replace him as head of the general secretariat. “It will be the people, especially the militants, who will finally decide. I am not going to pronounce on this issue,” he said.
However, he has indicated that he would like there to be “the greatest possible cohesion” and for the PSPV-PSOE to learn from the “mistakes of the past.” “Above all, knowing that the Socialist Party is at the service of Valencian society, of the majority of Valencian society, even beyond the party members,” he added.
