Government agrees to 43 response measures to alleviate concerns of farmers
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, and the state coordinator of the Union of Farmers and Livestock Unions, Luis Cortés, have signed the agreement on the proposed measures to respond to the concerns that farmers and livestock breeders have expressed in their mobilisations in recent weeks.
Minister Planas has reiterated the announcement he made in the Senate to modify the current framework of representativeness, “because the current ones have become obsolete and do not respond to reality” and to use objective measurement criteria so that all professional agricultural organisations present today in the royal activity can participate in the formal dialogue with the ministry.
The minister announced that today, Monday, the public consultation will begin for the modification of the royal decree that will allow the autonomous communities to extend the deadline for submitting applications for aid from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) until May 31. This provides time for the effective application of the simplification and flexibility measures included in the agreement signed. “It is the first flexibility measure that we adopted,” said the minister.
The minister has indicated that the 43 measures proposed by the Government have been “worked on and very studied, a consequence of actively listening to farmers and ranchers, to give them certainty and security for the future.” He has announced the creation of a panel of which the signatory organisations will be part to monitor its application.
Luis Planas has thanked the Union of Unions for the step forward and its responsibility in seeking consensus and has expressed confidence that in the coming days other professional agricultural organisations will adhere to the agreement.
