The Guardia Civil has investigated a soccer player for a crime of hate and another of injuries, and four other players for a crime of injuries, after a violent argument that occurred at the end of a soccer match held in the town of Trujillo (Cáceres).

The events took place on April 7, during a match belonging to the third category of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, which faced the Trujillo Football Club and the Moralo Sports Club at the Joaquín García de Guadiana Municipal Football Stadium in La town of Trujillo (Cáceres).

At the end of the match, a fight began between two players from both teams, and then there was an invasion of the field by numerous fans who were in the stands, leading to a violent argument between players, fans, and members of the technical teams of both sides, with the Guardia Civil and Local Police who were at the scene having to intervene.

After the fight, one of the Moralo Club Polideportivo players addressed the referee stating that a player from the Trujillo Football Club had used racist insults during the match, a circumstance that would have given rise to the argument between players and fans that occurred after end the game.

That same day, a fan filed a complaint with the Guardia Civil for an alleged crime of injuries caused by the same player who had supposedly made the racist insults.

Likewise, the player who allegedly made the racist insults filed a complaint for an alleged crime of injuries against four other players from the opposing team, among whom was the alleged victim of the racist insults.

For this reason, the Guardia Civil initiated proceedings for violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance in sports, against five players.

Likewise, the Guardia Civil, in contact with the Deputy Prosecutor for Hate Crimes of Cáceres, continued with the investigation of the proceedings, criminally investigating the player who had supposedly uttered the insults, for the alleged commission of a hate crime and another of injuries.

The other four players, including the one who allegedly received the racist insults, have been investigated for separate crimes of injury compared to the player investigated for the hate crime.

This operation is part of the Guardia Civil’s Action Plan against hate crimes and conduct that violates legal regulations on discrimination.
