Consum growing self-service network

Published

on

Consum is continuing to grow their self-service system in its network of stores with the installation of 90 checkouts in 30 more supermarkets. In total, this alternative to traditional payment at the checkout, which aims to reduce queues and speed up small purchases, is now available in 80 supermarkets with a total of 262 terminals.

The self-payment checkouts, which Consum began to install in 2020, complement the traditional ones and their main purpose is to reduce customer waiting time and encourage quick checkout for those customers who purchase few products and pay with a card.

All Consum supermarkets that have these devices, most of them located in tourist areas and urban areas with a high rate of steps per checkout, have specific personnel to answer any questions or incidents that may arise in the process,

The 80 supermarkets that have these self-checkouts are broken down to 53 in the Valencian Community, 18 stores in Catalonia, 5 supermarkets in Castilla-La Mancha, 3 in Andalusia and 1 in the Region of Murcia. The cooperative’s forecast is to maintain the extension of this service during 2024 in nearly fifty more supermarkets.

According to the study carried out by the cooperative after the implementation of the first terminals, customers especially value the simplicity of the process, the reduction in purchasing time, without waiting, and the automatic application of savings coupons for this service that will also be offered by the 15 new supermarkets that Consum plans to open this fiscal year 2024.

As part of the strategy to improve the customer experience, in addition to self-payment checkouts, the cooperative has implemented the digital ticket in the last year. This project meets the objective of offering a more sustainable and clean purchase for all customer-partners who request it. This ticket, available in the Mundo Consum APP for consultation, has the same legal validity as the traditional paper ticket, and also includes the name or location of the store, the date and time of purchase, the list of products with their price and the discounts applied.
