Unemployment has dropped by 46,783 people in all sectors, communities and ages



The number of unemployed people registered at the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) at the end of June fell by 46,783 people compared to the previous month (-1.79%).

The number of registered unemployed thus reached 2,561,067, the lowest figure since August 2008 and, on this occasion, with a record number of jobs.

Unemployment falls in June

Compared to June 2023, unemployment has decreased by 127,775 people (-4.75%). In seasonally adjusted terms, registered unemployment also decreased by 4,145 people.

Unemployment by sector

The registered unemployment rate is falling in all sectors of activity. By economic sector, compared to May, the registered unemployment rate has fallen in Services by 37,025 people (-1.98%), in Industry by 4,388 people (-2.15%), in Construction by 2,954 people (-1.47%) and in Agriculture by 267 people (-0.29%). Among the group of those without previous employment, it has decreased by 2,149 people (-0.89%).

Unemployment by sex and age

Female unemployment fell by 24,680 women (-1.57%), bringing the total number of unemployed to 1,546,204, the lowest figure since 2008.

Male unemployment stands at 1,014,863, falling by 22,103 men (-2.13%).

In year-on-year terms, the fall in female unemployment exceeds that of male unemployment: female unemployment fell by 78,113 women (-4.81%) and male unemployment fell by 49,662 (-4.67%).

Unemployment among young people under 25 years of age fell by 3,939 people (-2.20%) in June compared to the previous month.

Unemployment by autonomous communities

Unemployment registered in June 2024 fell in all 17 autonomous communities. The largest falls in absolute figures occurred in Andalusia (-8,746 people), Catalonia (-5,816 people) and the Valencian Community (-4,929).

In percentage terms, the largest declines were found in Castilla y León, Galicia and Cantabria.


The total number of contracts registered during the month of May was 1,379,963. In June 2024, 576,885 permanent employment contracts were registered, 41.15% of the total.

Unemployment benefits

The existing beneficiaries at the end of May were 1,694,609.

The unemployment protection system coverage during the month of May 2024 was 69.43%.

The average monthly expenditure per beneficiary, not including the agricultural subsidy for Andalusia and Extremadura, in May 2024 was 1,067.4 euros.

Total investment in benefits in May was 1,73 billion euro.
