A female dog walker, said to be in her 50´s, had to summon the help of the Local Police of Torrevieja, after she became trapped in mud whilst walking her dog through the salt lakes of the city. Recent heavy rains have left much of the vegetation waterlogged and, despite trying to free herself for some time, her attempts proved useless as every step seemed to lead to her sinking deeper into the ground. The stranded walker eventually gave up and called for help, resulting in the police and rescue services attending the Residencial Lagosal site, where they were able to extract her having suffered cuts and bruises in her struggle.

Known to be an arterial blockage for many years, the traffic flow through the single lane section of the N332 around Torrevieja is getting worse, according to the latest data collected on the road. In fact, all three main access roads to Torrevieja exceed the average of 20,000 vehicle passes per day, with the N332 registering 33,000 movements on some days, a figure which is comparable to the A7 motorway between Alicante and Murcia. The CV95 at Los Balcones registers 20,037 vehicles per day, whereas the CV905, known as the Crevillente road towards Quesada, registers 27,270 vehicles per day, according to the 2012 data, who endure the twelve roundabouts over a relatively short distance. So far, none of the proposals to improve the road network at Torrevieja have come to fruition, despite ongoing campaigns and complaints over the worsening situation.

Torrevieja is once again “open on Saturday”, with the retailers taking part in a regular street based spectacle of music, dance, fun and games, as well as discounts in most of the stores in the city. Proving extremely successful last year, this year the local shops also have to contend with the loss of business brought on by the popularity of the Zenia Boulevard shopping centre, which many local traders see as strangling local commerce and threatening the very presence of local shops. This weekend saw a variety of activities from chess to make up and a fantastic parade of costumes.

On Saturday the 11th of May, at 6 in the evening, there will be a demonstration against bullfighting in Torrevieja, coinciding with the celebration of the bullfight at this year´s May Fair. The concentration will be held next to the bullring that will be installed along the parking lot of the port. The organizers, Animalist Torrevieja, encourage those who wish to join the protest to express their revulsion towards this celebration by joining in the protest and subscribing to the event on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/events/133835033471740/.
