Boat Fishing.
Myself, ‘Blisters Steve’ and ‘Chef Jeremy’ went out with ‘Orca Steve’ on what has become a rare Monday with little or no wind. Initially we tried anchoring in 130 feet on the south side of the River Abajo.

We caught lots of different species although as usual in recent times nothing of any size.

Banded, pandora and white bream, combers, Spanish mackerel, bogues, pickerels and the biggest Atlantic mackerel I’ve ever seen, it must have weighed 3lbs. I had a lift bite that I was hoping was a triggerfish or sunfish but when I caught up with my slack line and landed the fish it turned out to be a palomete, a nice fish but of no great size.

See photo of me and my palomete.

We saw a couple of sunfish catching some rays of sun but they wouldn’t come close. A stingray came to eye me up and pinch a couple of discarded prawn heads but quickly disappeared when I dropped in my rig. A palomete also took advantage of free prawn heads and my good nature of throwing it a few prawn scraps.

Not that I didn’t have an alternative motive for the free feed but the fish just wasn’t interested in anything attached to a hook and line, clever fish.
Trolling to and from the river mark produced nothing and there was no signs of any tuna about. The Spanish boats would be trolling if there were any.

We drifted over various marks around the Repsol garage area; depths of 180 feet down to 30 feet didn’t produce anything better than we caught earlier so all in all it was a great day with no monsters caught.
‘Hissing Sid’ went out with Bunny, Clive and Jack over on holiday. The sea had a big swell but no wind thankfully. Fishing was good with plenty of species being caught. It was Sid’s last two hours that produced best and he found the triggers.

See photo of Jack and Bunny with triggers (Jack in the blue top).

Sid was soon out again with ‘Big Paul Barns’ and his mate Jeff and they were joined by Gavin. They had another good day with a flat sea and little drift. Lots of fish were caught except by Paul who was blanking with 30 minutes to go but ended up catching the best trigger of the day.

‘Pugwash Pete’ was out with ‘Steady Eddie’ and the pair had a great day. Lots of small red snappers and mackerel. Eddie landed a nice twin banded bream that Pete enjoyed for dinner.

See photo of Eddie and his trigger.

Pete was out again with ‘Richard from the loft’ and his sons Sam and Jack. They all caught a few fish but Sam was not well and supplied the ground bait for them. When he recovered he landed a nice Atlantic scad. Jack wasn’t catching so spent his time swimming, it was a good day enjoyed by all.

Shore Fishing.
‘London Bill’ has been doing well fishing Macenas rocks; he caught sea bass, Atlantic and Spanish mackerel, Atlantic scad and palomete, all edible sizes but no specimens.

Coarse Fishing.
‘Baza Barry’ fished Lake Negratin and had about 100lbs of carp and barbel in an eight hour session.
The ‘Rods and Reels’ competition was held on the Embalse de Blanca in Murcia. On arrival the water level was about a foot lower than normal. This is due, we believe to the fact that the dam at one end is hydro-electric and uses the water overnight to drive the turbines.

Then, during the day it fills back up again. The venue as always looked the “Real deal” but then, it always does. The water fished very well for Blanca, but poor by other venue´s standings. Neil who won had 3 good fish in the first hour “a miracle to behold”. There were, after saying all that, several blanks so the venue never “lets you down”.

Top Rods on the day
1st Neil (The Boy) Mcbirnie fishing the feeder using pellet and boilies with 28lbs.
2nd Dave (Yours Truly) Hoare fishing the feeder using corn and the whip for bleak with 22lbs.
3rd Bill (The Master) Reade fishing the monkey using hemp with 14.1/3lbs.

The ‘Abbey Angling’ match was fished on the Eden canal stretch.

The compensation water has brought the levels back up again after the weekend, when the water was down at least a foot. There was no flow on the water and it was absolutely alive with Terrapins from the size of dinner plate’s right down to the size of an old penny.

All the pegs are now being managed with each fishing club tending and keeping clear of rubbish their six allotted pegs and would all anglers please appreciate the work that is being done by taking your entire litter home with you. But as is usual there were still complaints from some anglers that their peg on the day had not been cleared enough. The problem is the people who do the moaning never seem to be about when the work is being done!

1st Terry (Swing em) Screen with 26lbs fishing the pole using punched bread and paste.
2nd Dave (Yours Truly) Hoare with 17lbs fishing the pole using punched bread.
3rd Dave (The New Boy) Hill with 16.1/3lbs fishing the pole and sweet corn.
All details are available on their website www.abbeyangling.com or from the Match Secretary Terry Screen on Tel No 965328368.

Latest license information.

There is a new loophole for those without a nie number who want an Andalucian beach and/or boat fishing license. It will mean a trip in person to Almeria with a friend who has a nie number and has a 50/50 chance of working! The other loophole for fishing the beaches and boats in Andalucia without an NIE document is to make a trip to Murcia.

There is now a loophole for those wanting coarse fishing licenses for Andalucia who don’t have NIE documents or/and don’t want to do the 24 hour course in Spanish, see me for more details.

I’m pleased to report the Beachcomber’s three web cams are working again and the other good news is they work on both 32 and 64 bit systems and on any browser so checkout Mojacar’s weather and Mediterranean Sea conditions here. www.beachcombermojacar.com/beachcomber-webcam/
