GRIÑÁN COULD STEP DOWN IN SEPTEMBER

According to his Socialist colleagues, the President of the Junta de Andalucía, José Antonio Griñán, has put into place a road map for his departure from Government, which could see him depart as early as September.

The President announced his intention not to stand for election to the Andalucian Parliament a month ago indicating that he would continue to serve until the end of the present term. However, as the days have passed, particularly the last week or so, sources now suggest that Griñán has been indicating a desire to leave office rather sooner than he had first said.

The Spanish Press agency EFE say that Griñán had lunch in Madrid with both the secretary general of the PSOE, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba , and the deputy secretary, Elena Valenciano , at which he told the pair of his decision.
