The AGM will be followed at 7pm by a free tasting reception featuring wine, Irish whiskey and Irish cheese, hosted by the Embassy of Ireland. All are welcome, and if you are hesitating to get involved, here are some good reasons:

Five years on from the founding of the SIBN in 2008, optimism is returning as export-led growth fuels recovery in both countries. Trade between Ireland and Spain remains steady at an impressive €7billion annually, belying the negative preconceptions about both economies.

For anyone seeking to do business in Ireland or in Spain, the SIBN represents an incredible resource of over 800 members, (Irish, Spanish and other nationalities) with a wide variety of backgrounds, from senior managers in multinational companies, to serial entrepreneurs, to graduates seeking to make their first steps in the world of work.

This year, we will launch our new website, www.sibn.es, which we hope will be a useful resource connecting the business communities of both countries.

In 2013, the SIBN organised a number of flagship events, including a seminar with the CEO of NAMA (Ireland’s bad bank), a roundtable on Ireland’s Start-up Ecosystem, a networking event for alumni of Irish universities, and an information evening on Learning English in Ireland.

For 2014, we are planning a St. Patrick’s Day Gala Ball in the Westin Palace, Madrid, in aid of international children’s charity Debra, as well as other sector-focused events.

Whether you are an established professional looking to broaden your business network, a Spanish entrepreneur seeking to expand into Ireland, or a graduate starting out, please do consider getting involved in the SIBN committee and seeing what you can contribute to strengthening Spanish-Irish relations.

Ms. Pino Bethencourt has presented her candidature for the post of President of the SIBN in 2014.

Nominations remain open for all positions (positions on the committee for 2014 will include President; Vice-President; Treasurer; Event logistics; Membership; ICT/social media, but you could also simply express interest in being a committee member). We are particularly keen to welcome more Spanish people onto our committee.

So come along on 23 January, meet other members of the network, see if you want to get involved, and join us afterwards for wines, whiskey and cheese.

Felices fiestas y Nollaig Shona!
